Opportunity to be part of shaping the future for carers in Surrey as an Independent Lay Chair of the Surrey Carers Partnership Board

The Surrey Carers Partnership Board was set up in 2022.

Its remit is to promote, champion and deliver the improvements to carers lives set out in both Surrey’s Adult Carers Strategy and Young Carers Strategy, working across the whole of the health and social care system in Surrey and the wider determinants of health and social care (for example education and housing) as they impact carers.

They are seeking an Independent Lay Chair.

What the role will do

The role will act as co-Chair (with another Lay Chair) of the Carers Partnership Board and will support work focused on making a real difference to Surrey’s carers, including helping to make sure that the values and priorities set out in the strategies become a reality, helping make a real difference to the present and future lives of unpaid carers in Surrey.

For example, for adult carers, in delivering the vision  “Surrey should be a place where carers are recognised, valued and supported, both in their caring role and as an individual. Carers will be respected as partners in care, will have a strong voice that influences improvement, and will be able to access the support they need, when they need it, and in the way that works best for them. This support will be available equally to all carers.”

What sort of person?

They are looking for someone who can bring their lived experience, insight and skills to this lay leadership role.

You must be keen to work with a range of partners and carers, committed to making sure that the voice of carers is heard in the planning and delivery of health and social care services, and that the interests of carers remain at the heart of discussions and decision making.

If you are interested in applying for this role, please complete the Expression of Interest Form telling them about yourself and return to Kim Jacobs at  [email protected]  or contact her for informal discussions about the role.

Further information

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future for carers, and the people they care for,  in Surrey. They are looking for people to bring their lived experience, insight and skills to this lay leadership role. You must be keen to work with a range of partners and carers, committed to making sure that the voice of carers is sought and heard in the planning and delivery of health and social care services, and to ensuring that the voice, views and interests of carers are at the heart of discussions and decision making.

The strategies, developed with carers, present an exciting opportunity to reset the carers agenda in Surrey, reaffirm the recognition of the vitally important service that carers provide and make specific commitments to how the identification, assessment and support for carers is continually developed and improved.

The role of Independent Carers Lay Chair will be both strategic and impartial, providing an independent view and working through the Board on the  planning and delivery and next iteration of the strategies for the complete health and care system across Surrey (and its wider determinants such as education). It includes oversight and scrutiny of the associated action programme plans by the Surrey Joint Carers Team,  and all other relevant organisations across the Surrey system to ensure that delivery to the strategic priorities is  progressed effectively and with the involvement of and in the best interests of carers.
